, the internet dancing phenomenon, came to Yahoo!’s headquarters at Sunnyvale and danced with each business unit. It was tons of fun, and it was awesome to see my SVP be a great sport and dance, mono-e-mono with Matt!
What have you done to be a better Yahoo?
First, understand the customer – if he’s not happy, we’re not happy. Next, thoroughly understand Yahoo! technologies. Finally, think about how our technologies can truly delight our customers – and make it happen.
Are you able to think big at Yahoo? How?
Absolutely – Yahoo! Mobile touches millions of users every day on the most personal device that people have – their cell phones! Being a product manager empowers me to determine the experience our users have – a responsibility not to be taken lightly!
What specific Yahoo! project has made the biggest impact on you and why?
At Yahoo! Mobile, we strongly believe that a great mobile experience goes far beyond taking the PC experience and cramming it into a tiny screen. Yahoo! oneSearch takes this philosophy and applies it to searching on the mobile phone – directly addressing a user’s need for instant information while on the go. A key problem with mobile phones is that most web browsers are unable to render full HTML sites, preventing our users from accessing information on these sites. One of my very first projects ensured that oneSearch had the best solution to adapt full HTML pages for display on the mobile phone. Through this project, I had exposure to Business Development, Product and Technical negotiations, large scale systems, and global deployments – quite a lot for a first job! I’ve launched the first major upgrade of this content adaptation system – but the best part is that I’m not done yet! Mobile is a rapidly evolving space, and I value the opportunities to keep driving this project, and introducing new functionalities!
What made you choose Yahoo! as a place to work?
Yahoo! is an incredible place to work in, with the most intelligent people in the world doing meaningful work which impacts half a billion people. How could I resist?
