There’s always so much going on around Yahoo!. A moment that jumps out at me is when Yahoo! announced
APT to the world through the New York Times on September 24, 2008. The launch of APT is a truly transformative direction that will revolutionize and unify networks globally.
What have you done to be a better Yahoo?
I’m a believer and an evangelist. When people ask why I work at Yahoo! instead of a competitor, I tell them that this is the place that cares most about the end user experience. Design is always about the user experience, and I will continue to remind people that Yahoo! is where design really matters.
Are you able to think big at Yahoo? How?
There are a lot of problems to be solved, and I believe Yahoo! can offer a framework for any industry or system in the world. I want to be a part of the equation that unifies the systems of the world.
What specific Yahoo! project has made the biggest impact on you and why?
APT took me into uncharted territory as an interaction designer. There was really nothing else in the marketplace that we could reference. Building a live exchange was, and still is, one of the most complex interaction problems in our time. Real-time democratization generally takes a span of time to observe and assess, but at Yahoo! we get to visualize and actualize that within days. Our extensive network reaches so broad and deep that we get to test out a lot of variables in an incredibly short period of time. It’s a truly rare opportunity to work on something so complex with so many disciplines and get near instant feedback on how your product is performing and projected to trend over time. This project has really fueled how I think on so many levels.
What made you choose Yahoo! as a place to work?
I’m convinced there is no other place in the world that employs a more diverse group of individuals and disciplines. The people here are unique and passionate about their disciplines in transformative ways. I really feel the people here are devoted to making a change for the better. And I have an endless source of inspiration when surrounded by scientists, researchers, engineers, designers, developers and business strategists. Yahoo! Is truly a remarkable place to work.
