Favorite Moment(s):

Thinking, “These guys aren’t going anywhere,” after learning about Yahoo!’s online presence in comparison to other popular dotcoms... Then, knowing I would soon contribute to that success.

What have you done to be a better Yahoo?

I read internal engineering documentation and departmental bulletins. Keeping informed about what’s happening and who’s doing it makes for exciting collaborations and quicker execution.

Are you able to think big at Yahoo? How?

I get to think big everyday because the problems we’re tasked with are huge and everyone is open to solutions. Corporate-wide mailing lists provide an opportunity to learn from, and influence, the brightest minds at Yahoo!. Half my team defined the best practices I live by when I code, and they share lesser-known techniques for improving their craft. So when they listen to what I have to say, I know my ideas are big.

What specific Yahoo! project has made the biggest impact on you and why?

The project I’m working on now has had a huge impact on me as a re-introduction to the word “teamwork”. Before, as a freelancer, teamwork meant scuttling off to do your part and presenting it to the group (i.e., the open-source model: you edit it, I use it). At Yahoo!, teamwork is about open thinking and tackling challenges together, even when they’re not your own—especially when they’re not your own. When deadlines feel like achievements to celebrate (instead of burdens to loathe), work is exciting, academic and fun.

What made you choose Yahoo! as a place to work?

I wrote my first web page over a decade ago, after studying the source code on Yahoo!’s web pages. Today, the world benefits from Yahoo’s breadth of knowledge on how to offer the best Internet experience, for the largest diversity of users and variety of devices. Put simply, the web isn’t done, and if any company can deliver the next Internet age, it’s Yahoo!.
