This may sound like a cliché, “Who says one person can’t make lasting impact on the world?”. This is certainly true at Yahoo!. It is THRILLING to launch a feature and see it’s usage grow from nothing to a million then to 10 million and then to 100+ million users. First product launch was a rewarding and life changing experience to know that you have the power to do some thing that is useful to millions of people around the world. From then on you never think of work as work, rather work becomes your living passion and you are on a mission to change the world. What a great experience! Finally, we have lot of FUN working hard,
playing foosball, and hanging around with friends who share similar values.
What have you done to be a better Yahoo?
Imagine you work a late night or a weekend to improve a product or improve performance or implement a COOL new feature. Now imagine your feature is used by 100 million users who love it and it saves them time or makes their life a bit better or helps them communicate better with their friends and family. Let’s assume your work results in additional 10 minutes of joy for millions using it.
What have you achieved:
- 16, 666, 667 hours or 694,444 days or 23,148 months or 1901 years of joy to the users.
- Internalizing such a thought is a humbling experience. It makes you work hard, do the right thing, partner with your fellow co-workers and team up to change the world.
- As a better Yahoo! we ponder less and do more. There is no room for politics and we help each other to win and win BIG.
Are you able to think big at Yahoo? How?
Absolutely!!! There is an eternal need to communicate and
Yahoo! Messenger has rich features to fulfill this BIG need.
What specific Yahoo! project has made the biggest impact on you and why?
I have seen Yahoo! transform itself post 2000 and emerge with greater strength on several fronts. I am impressed with our ability to work as one and tackle complex engineering challenges like Yahoo! Messenger,
Yahoo! Mail and Messenger integration, Yahoo! Answers and our community products.
In engineering, we believe in pursuit of perfection and solving complex problems that enable us “to connect people to their passions, their communities and the world’s knowledge”. This mission echoes in my heart and in my thoughts and leaves a lasting impact.
