Description:



We are looking for a talented, enthusiastic and versatile journalist who can combine a passion for high school sports and knowledge of the Internet for RivalsHigh, our national high school web network. RivalsHigh taps into the massive appetite for high school sports, using written and video content to provide the best news, features, results and discussion of high school sports on regional and national sites.





The job is divided into three parts:



· Programmer: Candidate will work with regional site publications to ensure the best content - original and aggregated – is displayed in the best way.



· Editor: Candidate will enhance content on regional sites to make it appropriate for national site.



· Writer: Candidate will be responsible for producing rankings and original content (stories, blogs) for a particular sport(s) at the national level.







The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of the types of content that are successful on the Web and a flair for packaging and promotion.







Candidates should have experience working on content teams that operate on a 24-7 cycle (that means nights and weekends), packaging stories, photos, and video from multiple sources. The candidate should be comfortable in an environment that blends human editorial judgment, great writing, and technology solutions.



The ideal candidate must have a strong sports journalism background. An understanding of the competitive landscape both online (blogs, other sites) and off (print and TV) is a must. As is a sense of humor.





Responsibilities include:

* Programming/updating assigned sites on our high school network



* Collaborating with regional site publishers



* Identifying and aggregating from media content partners



* Editing original and aggregated content



* Producing original content



* Pitching and packaging content to the RivalsHigh Front Page team

* Utilizing internal data sources to track key metrics for all content produced and using this information to inform future content production

* Working with UED to create visual assets that support content



Requirements:

* Minimum 2 years of experience in the sports journalism industry

* Understanding of the basic principles of Web content production

* Fundamental understanding of HTML and related web authoring tools and photo editing software such as Photoshop



* Working knowledge of Final Cut a plus

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills

* Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

* B.A. required
