How Big Can You Think?



The Interaction Designer works within the User Experience and Design (UED) team for the Yahoo! Content and Video Platform Group. As an Interaction Designer, you will function as a design specialist on a variety of projects in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment. You will work closely with product managers, engineers, visual designers, web developers and user researchers to develop new and improve existing product functionality across segments of the global Content and Video Platform Group. The Interaction Designer is the primary crafter of user experiences for products forming the standards for content publishing, asset management, metrics and analytics, license management, and more across all content types currently featured on all Yahoo!’s sites world wide. You are also the governing author of documentation that serves as functional specifications for prototyping, development, and QA.



Primary responsibilities include:



* Applying user-centered design processes to develop high quality user- flows and end to end experiences,

* Assisting in setting product direction and UI requirements based on business and user needs

* Working closely with a cross-functional team to develop the desired functionality to ensure that product requirements are met, creating prototypes and writing detailed functional specifications

* Working with user researchers to design and observe usability studies; Translating usability and field research findings into design improvements

* Working with Web Developers, Engineers and QA to deliver the final product while ensuring that it meets UED specifications

* Successfully communicating conceptual ideas and design rationale

* Working with members of the Engineering team to ensure technology supports proposed functionality.





Candidates must meet the following requirements:



* The individual should be skilled at presenting work in an organized and articulate manner and be comfortable contributing in meetings with various cross-functional departments.

*Candidates must have experience with the development of web applications, HCI, and knowledge of the Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator/Fireworks, Flash, MS Word, Excel, Visio/Omnigraffle/Balsamiq and HTML page creation tools.

* A BA, preferably in Human Factors/HCI, Industrial Design, product application design, or related field and/or depth of experience.

* At least 3-5 years experience as a key member of a user experience team participating in the complete product development lifecycle of several successfully launched web and/or software applications

* Must provide a portfolio or project samples of recent work. These samples should include finished solutions as well as process documentation.

* Extensive understanding of innovative information and interactive design.

* A strong, demonstrated understanding of user-centered interaction design methods and Web technology.

* Knowledge of, or experience programming in, ActionScript 2, ActionScript 3, and/or Adobe Flex a significant plus.

* Must be organized, have an eye for detail and be able to put ideas into a tangible form with a focus on user and business objectives.

* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

* Familiarity with field and lab-based usability research methodologies

* Familiarity with web technologies and strong technical leadership

* Ability to work independently and collaboratively

* Ability to communicate design rationale and build consensus

* Ability to prioritize and manage work to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment
