Possible Future Job: Program / Project Manager
Yahoo! is continuing to grow its technology to meet the ever growing user base, more cross product initiatives, and partnerships with more sophisticated software systems and solutions. To meet this demand, focus on platform solutions becomes increasingly more important and mission critical. The possible future Program / Project Manager would drive team initiatives, metrics, tools, dashboard and best practices.
Responsibilities
The Program / Project Manager would be responsible for driving and tracking tasks
• Supporting cross Consumer Platform initiatives, metrics, tools, reporting, dashboards, best practice.
- Tracks Req TBH vs. Open Priority
- Functional HC process and Tracking
- Opex and CapEx (hardware and labor)
- Biz contracts
- Quarterly forecast
• KPI Ownership
• Drive convergence to established best operations practices. Leverage best practices that already exist within teams, take the best and apply to others
• Should leverage as much as possible from the cross functional teams to define and implement practices that will improve efficiency and product delivery.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders with the goal of maintaining successes and improving overall department effectiveness.
• Develop metrics that will be embedded in the firm’s assessment process to effectively measure Technology performance against stated goals
• Establish appropriate Technology policies and procedures to develop a well-run, proactive Technology organization
Group initiatives
• Staff meetings, offsite, review meetings and other group events
• Track and drive cross group strategic initiatives
• Track and drives quarterly and yearly goals setting
• Drive common Dashboards
• Identify and drive internal group Metrics
• Process – While there may not be common process across all teams, there are common things that should be fostered as an org.
• Finances – Liaison with the Finance group, Recs, Budgets
Tools – Should be automated as much as possible to support the initiatives above
• Dashboard
• Reporting tool
• Resourcing tracking
Requirements
• BS/MS in Computer Science or Engineering degree required
• FDLC (Full Development Life Cycle) experience required
• 5+ experience in a Software development environment
• Deep understanding of Quality methodologies, process, metrics and automation.
• Detail-oriented and fanatical about the Internet
• Strong analytical skills
• Deployment processes experience with operations staff
• Strong verbal and written communication and coordination skills
• Ability to work independently and with a team
Desirable Experiences/Skills
• Experience working with remote sites
• Experience in running technical teams
• Experience coordinating and managing project managers on multiple simultaneous projects
