Production Operations UNIX System Administrator

 

Responsibilities:

We are seeking a talented, highly-motivated individual

interested in furthering their career supporting the systems that

comprise Y! Production Operations.  The focus is on providing

high-quality support for Yahoo! properties and shared UNIX

(FreeBSD/Linux/Solaris) infrastructure.

Analyze and resolve complex issues on live systems and sites.

Design and deployment of administrative tools to enable

debugging, configuration, analysis, and maintenance of systems and

infrastructure.

  Required Qualifications

 Extremely high level of motivation to learn and succeed; ability

and willingness to self-start and drive tasks to completion.

 Sponge-like ability to rapidly absorb and apply the most

appropriate technology to challenging problems on large-scale,

distributed networks.

Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science, Computer

Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent industry experience).

Adept with and knowledge of UNIX systems, such as FreeBSD,

Linux, and Solaris.

Solid understanding of networking concepts such as Ethernet,

TCP, IP, etc.

Solid knowledge of scripting languages (Perl or Shell) and general computer

programming.

Knowledge of open source software.

Preferred Qualifications

 Master's or higher degree in Computer Science, Computer

Engineering, or a related field.

In-depth experience with UNIX systems; certifications on major

distributions.

Deep knowledge of computer programming with a focus on scripting

languages (Perl, PHP, Python, Shell, etc.) and task automation.

In-depth experience with numerous pieces of open source software

such as ssh, yum, apache, and others.
