The Media Integration Team is responsible for coordinating horizontal activities across the Yahoo! Media anchor properties: News, Sports, Finance, and Entertainment. The Domain Expert plays a critical role in evaluating, understanding, and making recommendations for specific technologies and best practices across the Media organization.

The Yahoo! Media organization is the group responsible for the most visited Media sites on the Web: Yahoo! News, Yahoo! Sports, Yahoo! Finance, and well as entertainment sites: Movies, Music, etc. Millions of users visit these sites everyday.

The Domain Expert (DE) plays a critical role in evaluating, understanding, and making recommendations for specific technologies and best practices across the Media organization.
The DE should be a recognized "thought leader" and senior engineer in his or her particular field of expertise. Specifically, the DE is expected to bring to this job a passion and a high level of skill, and have the ability to instruct and motivate other Yahoo! engineers in best practices in the domain of expertise.
As a Senior Engineer, the Domain Expert will evaluate new technologies, build prototypes, write documentation, and provide training to other Media engineers. The DE may also own specific code packages related to his or her subject domain. The DE will also function as a solution architect, maintaining visibility into anchor properties and recommending solutions that implement best practices.
The DE will work with property architects and product teams translate property needs into engineering requirements for platform teams, perform strategic analysis in his or her area of expertise, and work closely with product managers as a point of contact for platform teams. The Domain Expert will also act as an evangelist within the Media organization, ensuring that property engineers are aware of best practices and keeping platforms informed of upcoming Media needs and requirements.
The DE will work with the Media Chief Architect as well as other architects across the company on the Media architectural vision relating to their domain.
In particular, the Search DE will be driving the integration of search in Media properties, including:
- Providing the right search experience for verticals working with the Media product teams
- Aligning search solutions across Media properties
- Leveraging search technologies to solve appropriate property problems
- Integrating with Yahoo! Search
The ideal candidate should have:
- Demonstrable experience in building large, highly scalable web sites and services.
- Industry recognition in his or her area of expertise, including publications in industry journals and presentations at relevant conferences.
- A proven ability to collaborate with multiple teams and to influence by example in those roles.
- Superior written and verbal communications skills in English (multi-lingual a plus).
Skills and experience:
- Experience deploying and integrating with search engines
- Knowledge of search engine internals a plus
- 10 or more years of experience in building large-scale websites.
- BS in Computer Science, or equivalent (advanced degrees a plus)
