About Business Unit:
The Yahoo! Operations Center is opening a brand new facility in Lockport, New York, which will serve as the central monitoring organization for Yahoo! worldwide. Our new data center in New York will be one of the greenest, and most energy-efficient in the world. First, it will be powered by one of the cleanest utilities in the country – fed predominantly by renewable hydroelectric power from Niagara Falls. And second, a record 90% of that energy will power the servers. The facility will have a unique building design that we call the Yahoo! Computing Coop (because it looks like something chickens live in), which is angled to take advantage of Buffalo’s microclimate, using 100% outside air to cool the servers.
Job Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, provide timely and quality technical support by responding to first line requests from internal employees, contractors, and temporary work force for Yahoo! via phone, email, and chat; document all support requests in tracking system; resolve issues involving the use of diagnostic tools, troubleshooting and problem solving methodologies; resolve 90% of support requests at first contact.
Minimum Qualifications:
• 1-3 years experience in a technical support environment
• Night, weekend and holiday availability a must
• Previous help desk experience preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS or equivalent is desired
Preferable Job Qualifications:
• Experience supporting PC and Mac environments. UNIX a plus
• Application installation and support
• Microsoft Exchange; Outlook, Entourage, Thunderbird configuration and troubleshooting
• Experience with Active Directory, BES, IMAP, DNS, FTP, Cisco VPN
• Knowledge of remote support tools; LANDesk, DameWare, RDC
• Experience with support tracking systems
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
• Excellent communication and phone skills
• Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently
